Alcohol and Drug Policy

1. PURPOSE
This policy aims to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all staff, customers, and the environment by establishing clear standards regarding the use of alcohol and drugs. It aligns with AMSA (Australian Maritime Safety Authority) requirements and best industry practices to prevent impairment that could compromise safety within our operations.
2. SCOPE
This policy applies to all employees, contractors, volunteers, and authorized personnel involved in diving operations, boat handling, and related safety-critical activities.
POLICY STATEMENT
Jervis Bay Sea Sports is committed to maintaining a safety-conscious workplace free from the influence of alcohol and drugs during working hours and in safety-sensitive situations.
3. Principles
Prohibition of Alcohol and Drugs:
No staff member shall consume alcohol or drugs (including prescription medications that may impair performance) while involved in work activities, including prior to or during working hours, or whilst on company premises or vessels.
Impairment and Safety:
  • Employees must notify management if they are taking medications that could impair their ability to perform safety-critical tasks.
  • No employee shall operate vessels, diving equipment, or safety-critical machinery under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
  • No employee shall allow customers to consume alcohol before diving, or allow a customer who they suspect of being affected by alcohol or drugs to enter the water or dive.
4. Responsibilities
Employees: o Comply with this policy at all times including prior to commencing any work shift.o Report if they could be under the influence of a substance or if they suspect others are impaired before undertaking any safety critical task. o Completely abstain from alcohol and drug consumption during any shift. Management: o Implement and enforce this policy.o Provide education and training regarding alcohol and drug safety.o Facilitate testing if necessary and handle breaches in accordance with disciplinary procedures.
Zero Tolerance
Any misuse of alcohol or drugs during safety-critical work or diving activities may result in dismissal from the organisation
